About the Guide:
Beau is a native Floridian who grew up in the 1960's on Merritt Island and spent his youth exploring and fishing the surrounding waters. He has a knowledge of the area that can only be gained through years of living in Central Florida and fishing local waters. Don't be concerned if you are new to the sport of flyfishing as Beau loves to instruct beginners and caters to any level of experience.
Beau offers both light tackle and fly fishing trips, specializing in fly fishing for bass and panfish and saltwater flats species. He is one of the very few local guides who is proficient in guiding fly anglers to catches of bass and panfish in local freshwater lakes and streams such as Lake Toho, the Kissimmee Chain and Shingle Creek. These freshwater trips can be a perfect getaway for an angler who is town on businesses or visiting the Orlando attractions with family and wants to spend part of a day on the water. Because of the proximity to the fishing it is often possible to arrange pick-up and drop-off at your hotel.
Regardless of whether you choose to fish Orlando area freshwater or the nearby saltwater flats you will be fishing out of a Maverick flats boat rigged for fly fishing. Equipment provided is top quality Van Staal reels and custom built rods.

Suggested Equipment:
Rods:
- 4wt to 8wt rods for freshwater species.
- 7wt to 9wt rods with high quality disk drag reels for saltwater trips.
Lines, Leaders, Tippet:
- Weight forward floating lines cover most area fishing situations. A sink tip line can be helpful in saltwater, especially when casting to mangrove shorelines or sight fishing larger redfish and trout in deeper water.
- 9-10' tapered leaders with 8#, 10# and 12# tippets are used for redfish, trout and for freshwater bass. If we are targeting snook you will want a heavier duty leader tapered to 16# to 20# with a section of 20# to 30# flourocarbon shock tippet attached to the end.
Freshwater Flies:
- It's hard to beat a topwater take by a largemouth bass. For that reason we fish a lot of poppers for both bass and panfish. Going deep in freshwater can also be very productive. Anything from nymphs to baitfish patterns and worm immitations can be very productive in freshwater lakes and streams
Saltwater Flies:
- Polar fiber minnows, clousers, deer hair sliders and various crab patterns are the majority of flies that are used on the flats.
Lures:
- All of the top water lures and stickbaits are made personally by me as well as the deer hair jigs for fishing both the freshwater and the saltwater.
Other Recommended Items:
- Polarized sunglasses (preferably copper or amber tinted)
- Hat with a wide brim
- Lightweight rain suit
- Warm jacket (in winter)
- Sunblock
- Any food or drinks you would like to bring (ice and water are provided)
- A digital camera in a waterproof case or plastic bag
