About the Guide:
Capt. Frank Catino is a life long resident of Florida. He has guided both offshore and inshore charters for over 30 years. He has fished from his base on the East Coast of Florida to the Keys, Bahamas and Central America as well as Montana and Wyoming. He designed the Catino Fly Reel and Rods for fly and conventional tackle companies. He is the Southeast rep for Cortland Line Company.
Frank’s specializes in sight casting for redfish and trout in skinny backwaters of the logoon system as well as mangroves for snook. He is also has a great passion for Tarpon in the backcountry of the Florida Keys.
Suggested Equipment:
Rods:
- 6wt to 9wt rods will work well. For calm skinny backwater 6wt and 7wt rods are ideal. On breezier days 8wt and 9wt will be rods of choice. I use 7wt to 9wt rods for Snook and 10wt to 12wt for Tarpon.
Lines, Leaders, Tippet:
- Weight forward floating lines are used most of the time. An intermediate line is also a good line for snook and tarpon fishing
Flies:
- Any crab, shrimp or bonefish pattern that looks alive will work well for redfish. Snook and trout will readily take a baitfish immitation like the Puglisi style flies.
Other Recommended Items:
- Polarized sunglasses (preferably copper or amber tinted)
- Hat with a wide brim
- Lightweight rain suit
- Warm jacket (in winter)
- Sun block
- Any food or drinks you would like to bring (ice is provided)
