What do you get when you combine many years in precision aerospace machining, a love of fly fishing and a desire to create something new and better? When Jack Charlton set out to create his first reel, he wanted it to be different. Instead of just making a few modifications to an existing style of reel and calling it his own he started from the ground up. At Orlando Outfitters we believe that the MAKO, the end result of countless hours of research and development, is well worth the effort. When you have the fish of a lifetime wearing away at your tippet and a MAKO strapped to your rod we're sure you will agree.

In Stock MAKO Reels vs. Special Orders . . . MAKO reels are made in relatively small quantities with great attention to detail and are not as widely available as others may be. Many of the reels sold are special orders that never even sit in a shop's reel case. Just because you don't see it in stock here doesn't mean you can't order it. We list reels for sale in the configurations in which they are currently set up. If we have the pieces (i.e. 9500-8s Reel and a 9500-810 Spool) we can make you what you want (9500-810 Reel). Just ask. We could show all the options as "in stock" but feel that that would be misleading since in some cases we would be selling you something we couldn't deliver for a couple weeks. We can, however, special order any MAKO reel you want. Feel free to contact us for custom orders or with any questions you might have.
MAKO reels come from the factory in either right-hand or left-hand retrieve. Most of the reels we stock are set up right hand. If you need a configuration that is not in stock let us know and we'll get one in for you.
