One of the first things I grab when preparing for a
trip out on the flats is a Buff. Preferably lighter in
color during the summer and possibly an Insect
Shield Buff if the mosquitoes and no-see-ums are
particularly bad. Just to make sure I never go
without, I keep as spare in my fishing bag.
As you can see on numerous websites and You-Tube
videos and on Buff's packaging, there are numerous
ways you can wear these things. The norm for the
flats is to pull it on over your head and leave it
around your neck until the sun is up. I like to put
my sunglasses on early in the morning and hide
them under my Buff to have them ready when the
sun makes its appearance. When the sun is up, pull
your Buff up over your mouth and possibly your nose
and pull it up in back over your cap. Your cap will
stay on, even when running, and your chances of
ever developing skin cancer will be diminished. And,
with the thin breathable material, you'll remain
comfortable.
