What's Happening at Orlando Outfitters

Please give us a call, visit us in our shop, or fill out our contact form to get more information or to sign up for a class or event.

Regular Events

  • Orlando Outfitters/Scott Fly Rod Fly Fishing School
Because these classes are scheduled on an individual basis they are not found on our calendar but we have classes going all year long. Look at our Fly Fishing School page for more information and to find out about scheduling a class.
  • Fly Tying Classes
We offer fly tying classes several times a year. If you don't see a class on the schedule but would like to learn to tie flies get in touch with us and we'll get your name on the list so you will be notified when we schedule the next class.
  • Flies and Lies - 1st Wednesday of every month
Come hang out, tie some flies and tell some lies. Bring your tools and materials and tie whatever you want. We hold Flies and Lies here at the shop on the first Wednesday of each month. We get started around 6PM and are usually here until around 8:30PM.

Flies and Lies is a chance to hang out with other fly tyers and to share patterns and stories. While we all learn from each other this is not a class environment. We do, however, regularly have people who don't tie come hang out. So, no matter what your skill level, feel free to stop by for a few minutes or a couple hours.

Monthly Schedule

February 2010

Wednesday, February 3
Flies and Lies: 6:00 to 8:30 PM.

Saturday, February 13
Tarpon Fishing in the Florida Keys: Starts at 9:00 AM

  • Join Keys guide Capt. Drew Delashmit as he discusses fly fishing for tarpon in the Florida Keys. The Keys offer one of the best tarpon fisheries on earth. If you are where you need to be when you need to be there, you can expect shot after shot at large tarpon traveling across gin-clear oceanside flats, laid up in backcountry bays and everything in between.

Capt. Drew will focus on tactics and techniques for tarpon, from the moment of sighting the fish to the moment that the fish begins peeling the line from your fingers. He will be emphasizing presentations and retrieves that are the key to fooling the tarpon of the Lower Keys.

  • This seminar will take place at Orlando Outfitters and in the baseball field out back or at a nearby park. Plan to be here a little before 9AM (we'll get started at 9) and to finish up around noon. If session 1 fills up we will be offering another session in the afternoon.Cost is $10 and space will be limited to 15 people. Please give us a call or fill out our contact form to find out more or to reserve a space.

  • Join Dr. Aaron Adams of the Bonefish & Tarpon Trust as he discusses the science and sport of fly fishing for bonefish, tarpon and permit. In addition to being the Director of Operations for BTT, Dr. Adams is the author of Fisherman’s Coast and Saltwater Prey, both of which we carry and highly recommend. He is also a hard-core fly fisherman.

  • As oil continues gushing into the Gulf of Mexico we become more and more concerned about what this could mean for Florida's environment and fisheries. Dr. Adams will spend a few minutes discussing and answering questions about the potential effects of the Gulf oil spill. BTT has created a page with extensive links to various sources of information on the Gulf spill if you care do do some reading: http://www.tarbone.org/bp-oil-spill-updates.html.

  • Don’t miss this chance to learn from someone who has a unique perspective on fly fishing for bonefish, tarpon and permit and can help you to become a better angler. We hope to see you on Saturday.
