T.J. Bettis
T.J. has been catching fish ever since he was old enough to hold onto a rod. His mother taught him to fish when he was two and he has spent as much time on, in and around the water as possible ever since.
He has a passion for traveling as well as fishing and especially enjoys when the two are mixed. He has fished for many different species in many parts of the world and rarely goes anywhere without a fly rod. His wife, Heidi, even let him take a few rods on their honeymoon, which included stops at some very nice water in Ireland and Austria. He has 3 young daughters (the oldest just turned 7) whom you will see in the shop in the years to come. Favorite local fishing:
- Chasing tailing redfish on the Indian River and Mosquito Lagoon.
Favorite non-local fishing:
- Looking for oversized bonefish in the Turks and Caicos.
- Drifting dry flies for trout in small, rocky streams in the Appalachian Mountains.
Tim Bettis
Tim hasn't been fishing for quite as long but makes up for it by going places where T.J. can't go and catching fish while T.J. is working. His last trip was a week long excursion to British Columbia with his wife, Margo.
Tim and Margo live right on the Indian River with their dog Eli and their Gordon skiff.
Favorite local fishing:
- Chasing tailing redfish on the Indian River and Mosquito Lagoon.
Favorite non-local fishing:
- Swinging streamers for oversized Patagonian Brown Trout.
- Catching big permit on a crab fly in Ascension Bay, Mexico.
Chris Barco
Chris has been fishing the water around Orlando for a number of years and is an excellent person to talk with if you want to know where and how you can tangle with a big saltwater fish on the fly. He frequents the water on both sides of the peninsula and can often be found drifting along in his khaki Heritage Marquesa.
When not fishing he is likely to be doing backbreaking labor in his yard or hanging out with his wife, Cindy. He also spends time rubbing elbows with the locals at 4 AM in some of the more out of the way places along the coast, doing his best to uphold his status as "The Legend."
Favorite local fishing:
- Catching tarpon from his kayak.
Favorite non-local fishing:
- Fishing for bonefish in the Bahamas.
Todd Fuller
Todd is a full-time fly fishing guide who puts in a few hours with us on days off or after charters. He also works with TJ on the Fly Fishing School and runs the on-the-water portion of our Saltwater Fly Fishing School. He and his wife Vicki live in Orlando with their new baby Madison and a couple of dogs.
Todd's family owns a lodge on Michigan's AuSable river (Fuller's North Branch Outing Club) where he spends some time guiding each year.
Favorite local fishing:
- Casting at tailing reds at first light on the Mosquito Lagoon.
Favorite non-local fishing:
- Throwing streamers at oversized brown trout in Michigan.
- Catching bonefish in the Bahamas.
Liz Fox
Liz has been working part time at the shop since late 2006, when she sold her boutique clothing store in Naples. She knows more than the rest of us about the clothing industry and her experience has been invaluable both in writing orders and in selling clothing. If the window out front looks good, the clothes are in order and the writing on the blackboard is legible you know that Liz has been in recently.
Liz enjoys fly fishing area waters with her fiancé, Brandon, who is Executive Chef at Luma on Park. If you haven't eaten there we highly suggest you give it a try.
Favorite local fishing:
- Casting to bream and bass in the Winter Park Chain.
- Looking for reds on the Lagoon.
Favorite non-local fishing:
- Casting to snook in SW Florida.
